Empty cars & airplanes? Or simply no sun?

June 2, 2008

Many honest people in the body of Christ are wholeheartedly following after a terribly faulty teaching about the rapture of the church.

What does the Bible actually say is the chronology of events leading up to our miraculous trip up in the clouds? Look at these well known scriptures:

“According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.”

 – 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

“Immediately after the distress of those daysthe sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

 – Matthew 24:29-31

“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

 – Luke 21:25-28

“I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

Revelation 6:12-17

“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

 – Revelation 7:9 (notice this is AFTER chapter 6’s description of the sun turning black etc.)

1) So there is ONE EVENT called THE DAY OF THE LORD
2) It will be preceded by a terrible tribulation (previously unmatched in history)
3) We will know it is THE DAY OF THE LORD because there will be unmistakeable GREAT SIGNS in the Sun, Moon, Stars, & Heavens
4) THE DAY OF THE LORD will COMMENCE and the terrible tribulation will END with Jesus’ Personal Return to Earth.
5) ALL eyes will see Him, EVERYBODY, we “who remain” as well as the wicked.
6) The DEAD in CHRIST will RISE. THE RESURRECTION!
7) THEN and only then will He will gather us from the ends of the Earth.
The Bible is VERY clear on the chronology of events, in my opinion. If you can twist the words of Jesus into some other chronology do not write me about it. I don’t twist the words of Jesus.

I have always been taught, and believed, in the rapture. In the past two years or so, though, God has been challenging me to question EVERYTHING
